Last school year, I was one of 4 students from my school accepted into the the W.E.B Du Bois Scholars Institute Accelerated Learning Academy. I attended weekend workshops on  career development and academic enrichment activities throughout the school year at Princeton University’s campus (the campus is amazing!). I participated in the Bio-Medical Engineering track where i was able to explore "STEM through both in-classroom and “real world” opportunities, including group activities, workshops, hands-on demonstrations and real world applications." I had a  great time building medical equipment and meeting new people. I even got to play in the snow on the first day! I look forward to going back next year and learning even more about Bio-Medical Engineering careers. The links below give an idea of what I did in the program.

It was my first time at Easterns and boy was it exciting. I started on my favorite event, bars. As I swung from one bar to the other, all I could think was, this is it, I really made it to Nationals! I landed and exhaled as took a tiny hop.. The score 9.35... Not my best, but this is Nationals, the judges expect the best from me.
Next it was the beam.... Yikes! I was in the zone, or so I thought....Ummmm no idea what happened. I went for my series and out of nowhere, I couldn't hold my balance so I had to jump off and reset. Of course I was disappointed, but I had to leave that behind and head to the floor.
Floor was great!.... Music came on, I got in the zone again.....dance, dance, tumble, tumble. I missed my teammates dearly.... I really wished they were there for our "dance-along" portion. So I had to pretend that the judges were my teammates and in my head I had to imagine they were moving their arms with me. Music ended, I salute and head for the arms of my coaches who seemed happy with that performance. Next up! The VAULT...
Warm-ups for vault were a bit rough... I say a quick prayer before competition begins. I run as fast as I could hit the board, do a layout off the table and and land right on my tush.... Oh oh! It's Nationals! I can't let my coaches down. I get a little pep talk from coach Jason and pull myself together. Again, I run as fast as I could, hit the board, layout off the table and bam! I land it! Yes! I can hear my mom.... well so can everyone else, 'cause she is the loudest mom at all the meets...... Before the meet she showed me a video about having faith. I believed in myself and my faith with determination landed me a silver medal at Nationals!

"Now, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1

This week, I had the opportunity to speak to a group of 3rd graders about my gymnastics and overcoming obstacles. I had a great time and I encouraged them to never give up on their dreams no matter what. Of course, my teammate and I showed off some of our flips!

    IN MY SPARE TIME...

I have been a member of the praise dance team at church since I was 5 years old. So when I am not doing gymnastics,  I am practicing for my next performance.
